On the 1,000th day of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky urged the European Parliament to continue supporting Ukraine and push Russia toward a just peace, emphasizing the importance of sanctions and Europe’s strength in defending freedom.

„Together with Ukraine, all of Europe, and our partners in America and around the world, we have succeeded not only in preventing Putin from taking Ukraine but also in defending the freedom of all European nations,” said Zelensky during his virtual speech to the European Parliament.

The Ukrainian leader stressed that even with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un by his side, Putin is still weaker than the combined strength of Europe.

„I urge you not to forget what Europe is capable of achieving. If we can protect Europe’s way of life, we can surely push Russia toward a just peace. Peace is what we desire most,” Zelensky stressed.

The president reminded the Parliament that two years ago, Ukraine proposed a peace formula.

„I’m grateful to all of Europe and every partner who has supported it, and you in the European Parliament were among the first to back the peace formula. The only ones opposing it are Russia,” he said.

He reiterated that Russia, as the aggressor in this conflict, must be pushed toward a just peace, and every attack and threat from Russia should be met with sanctions.

„For a thousand days, it has been crucial to limit Russia’s ability to wage war,” Zelensky added. He also stated, „Oil is the lifeblood of Putin’s regime,” emphasizing that sanctions are essential to counter Russia’s actions.
