In a recent announcement following the Ipsos poll results, Tusk said that Trzaskowski’s overwhelming victory is a reaffirmation of democratic governance in Poland. „Trzaskowski has confirmed that he is the leader of democratic local government in Poland, achieving a spectacular result,” Tusk proclaimed, emphasizing the significance of this victory just four months after the government’s challenging parliamentary win.

„Today, we celebrate a significant triumph for democratic Poland. Rafał Trzaskowski’s remarkable victory in Warsaw underscores our shared commitment to a future shaped by hope, respect, and responsibility,” Tusk declared, as quoted by state news agency PAP.

Tusk stated that the local election outcomes are a reinforcement of the democratic mandate received last October: „this repetition of our October success into April’s elections signifies a resolute step forward in our journey towards a prosperous, inclusive Poland,” he said.

Trzaskowski, re-elected with a compelling 59.8 percent according to Ipsos, echoed Tusk’s sentiments, emphasizing the election as a milestone against the populist tide represented by the conservative populist Law and Justice (PiS) party.

„This victory is more than a personal achievement; it’s a clear message that Poland aspires to be a nation of openness, tolerance, and European values,” Trzaskowski remarked, expressing his gratitude to the residents of Warsaw and Tusk for their unwavering support.

The election results have also sparked discussions about his potential candidacy for the presidency. Tomasz Siemoniak, Vice-Chairman of Civic Platform and Minister of Coordination of Special Services, suggested that Trzaskowski’s strong mandate could be the precursor to a presidential bid.

„Trzaskowski’s impressive win positions him as a frontrunner for the national presidency, marking a pivotal moment in Poland’s political discourse,” Siemoniak observed.

The governing coalition securing 31.9 percent of the vote in the local elections, closely trailing behind PiS’s 33.7 percent.
