Speaking to broadcaster TVR Moldova on Monday, Alexandru Musteata said that a possible Russian invasion of Moldova depended on how the Kremlin handles its “special military operation” in Ukraine.
“The Russian Federation plans to invade the Republic of Moldova in early 2023, but this scenario depends on the development of the conflict in Ukraine,” Musteata said.
He added: „The question is not 'will it happen?’ but 'when will it happen?”
Musteata also said in the interview that Russian forces could use weaponry from a depot located in Cobasna, a village in Moldova’s pro-Russian breakaway region of Transnistria.
According to Musteata, a probable new Russian offensive in Ukraine could serve to open a land corridor to Transnistria.
