On this day, at 4.45, World War II began with the German attack on Westerplatte.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Minister of Defence Władysław Kosiniak Kamysz and Speaker Szymon Hołownia were all in Westerplatte this morning to commemorate the outbreak there of World War Two.
The Battle of Westerplatte was the beginning of the German invasion of Poland on 1st September 1945 at 4.45 am. Westerplatte is a peninsula in today’s Gdańsk – in 1945, the free city of Danzig.
