Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has said that the results of the US presidential election validate Warsaw’s foreign policy of building political connections with both the Democratic and Republican parties.

„We have strong relations with Joe Biden’s administration, and we also engage with the opposition, as is typical in democracies,” Sikorski said prior to the election results, in response to a question about the possibility of a Republican victory.

Sikorski told broadcaster TVN24 that „Poland is in a strong position” thanks to the government’s commitment to maintaining good relationships with both American parties.

He added that Poland’s President Andrzej Duda has close ties with Donald Trump.

Bipartisan diplomacy

Sikorski has previously said that Poland’s government maintains a balanced approach to US elections.

He argued that Warsaw supported both US presidential candidates and aimed to avoid past mistakes, referring to a previous opposition decision to openly back the Republican candidate.

After the polls closed in the United States and Trump emerged as the winner, Sikorski said on Wednesday: „The American people have made their choice. This outcome confirms the correctness of Poland’s foreign policy, which focuses on maintaining political contacts with both Democrats and Republicans.”

Sikorski added that he remains in regular contact with top security officials from both parties.

„The winds of history are blowing ever more strongly; Poland’s leadership will rise to the occasion,” Sikorski declared.
