It will be put into circulation on 24 August 2023 – the Independence Day of Ukraine.

The set, designed by Ukrainian artist Volodymyr Taran, consists of two silver coins that together form a symbolic heart shape. Their face value is 10 Polish zloty PLN/10 Ukrainian hryvna UAH.

The total mintage of the set is up to 10,000 pieces (5,000 pieces for each country), the Ukrainian bank producing half of the coin’s mintage with the other half produced by the Mint of Poland (Mennica Polska S.A.).

The obverses of the coins feature ribbons in the colours of Ukraine and Poland, and stylized images of human figures that symbolize the current situation in both countries, the Ukrainian coin depicting the horrors of war and the nation’s resistance, and the Polish coin depicting help, support, and compassion.

The reverses feature symbolic figures of a Ukrainian and a Pole who are sitting at one table covered with a tablecloth, and sharing bread and wine.

The National Bank of Poland is planning to donate the proceeds from the sale of the coins for humanitarian assistance for Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
