Poland wants to host more US troops to help strengthen the eastern flank of NATO in response to the threat from Russia, Poland’s minister for security services, Tomasz Siemoniak, has said.

Speaking at a debate on security at the University of Warsaw on Monday, Siemoniak said that Poland’s authorities were considering the scenario that the war in neighbouring Ukraine could spread to other countries, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
„We should do everything to ensure that as many allies as possible are present in Poland,” Siemoniak said.
„The idea is to eliminate threats,” he added.
According to Maj. Gen. Bogusław Pacek, an attack by Russia on Poland in the coming years is „realistic but unlikely.”
The Polish general said: „We have no reason to panic. However, there are concerns arising from the rapid development of Russia’s military potential. We cannot ascertain whether the Russian authorities merely seek to intimidate the West or are prepared for actual warfare. In my view, the likelihood of war is low.”
Around 10,000 American soldiers are currently stationed in Poland, the IAR news agency reported.
