The government will expand the Lech Kaczyński LNG Terminal in Świnoujście by opening a third LNG-storage container, the biznesalert.pl website reported.
Work on the new facility, which will store 180,000 cubic metres of LNG, is nearing completion and the launch is planned for 2024, according to officials.
The LNG terminal in Świnoujście has been part of Poland’s drive to diversify sources of supply and become fully independent from Russian gas, especially following the Kremlin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, according to news outlets.
Last year, the terminal in Świnoujście received 58 tanker ships with LNG, exceeding the planned figure of 42, officials said.
In 2023, a total of 64 tanker vessels are expected to bring LNG to Świnoujście, biznesalert.pl reported.
The Lech Kaczyński LNG Terminal is expected to provide customers with a total of 7,000 cistern trucks of LNG regasified into natural gas in 2024, up from 5,362 cistern trucks in 2023, according to officials.
Following the launch of the third LNG-storage container in 2023, the terminal’s regasification capacity will reach 8.3 billion cubic metres a year, biznesalert.pl reported.
After the expansion, Poland’s LNG terminal in Świnoujście could become the gas hub for Central Europe, according to officials.
