FM Sikorski: Poland’s diplomacy would benefit if Duda’s successor signed ambassadorial nominations

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, speaking on TVN24 on Saturday, voiced his frustration with the president’s failure to honor agreements on ambassadorial nominations and announced he would seek approval from Duda’s successor to ensure the effectiveness of Polish diplomacy.

„To ensure the effectiveness and reputation of Polish diplomacy, I will withdraw my requests to the President for signing ambassadorial nominations. Three agreements were not honored. I will address the requests to his successor,” announced Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski in an interview with Fakty po Faktach.
President Duda broke agreement with Poland’s MFA three times
The head of Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs admitted being frustrated with President Duda’s behavior regarding the blockage of ambassadorial nominations.
Sikorski confirmed that he had „more than fulfilled” the three agreements made with Andrzej Duda on this issue, and individuals nominated by the Polish president are already serving in seven Polish diplomatic missions – in New York, London, Canada, Paris, Bucharest, the Vatican, and Beijing – despite the fact that the president initially requested the approval of four ambassadors he had proposed.
„All three agreements were not honored by the president,” Sikorski pointed out, adding that in the coming days he will formally ask President Duda to suspend the implementation of the previously submitted nominations.

Sikorski announced his intention to withdraw the ambassadorial nomination requests he had previously made to President Duda.
„For the sake of the foreign service and the effectiveness of Polish diplomacy,” Sikorski emphasized, „it would be better for the new ambassadors to receive their nominations from the successor of Andrzej Duda.”

„Poland is not only one of the five largest countries in the European Union but also a key player that co-decides on the EU’s matters,” Sikorski also pointed out during the same appearance on TVN24.
„The way this war ends will determine the balance of power on our continent as well as the sense of security. I believe we cannot be certain what our big neighbor, Russia, will do as long as V. Putin remains in charge of the country,” stated the head of Polish diplomacy.
